US Officials Boast Over 25,000 Kinder Surprise Candy Eggs Seized

A Canadian woman was stopped by US Border patrol for a random search of her vehicle and it looks like they struck gold (chocolate gold) again.  US Customs officials seized her $2 Kinder Surprise candy egg – those are illegal contraband in the United States of America lady!

Lind Bird was recently stopped at the U.S. border and selected for a random search of her vehicle. She was warned she could have faced a fine after the customs official found — and seized — her $2 Kinder Surprise egg as illegal contraband.

Bird learned U.S. authorities have banned the candy because they come with a plastic toy inside that could, if eaten, choke a small child.

Oh, it’s for the children.  ::wipes brow::  Seriously though, it pains me to think why such a decision wouldn’t be left up to the parents to decide.   It would seem to me they know whats best for their own children.  I’m sure they could decide if their child was old enough to “handle” the Kinder Surprise candy egg.  Just another reason why an informed public is necessary for a free society.

Little did Bird know, the Kinder egg could have resulted in a $300 fine…Instead of getting to chow down on a chocolate egg when she got home, Bird was treated to a 7-page letter from U.S. customs officials seeking official permission to destroy the egg.

Don't Choke! 25,000 seized by US officials and counting! Get 'em boys!

It seems pretty obvious to me by the picture on the right, that it would be pretty damn hard to choke on a toy like that, even if you were a dog.  If you didn’t notice the the big orange tube when you bit into the chocolate… well…

“I thought it was a joke. I had to read it twice. But they are serious,” she said.

A joke?  Get real we are talking about a childs safety here.

“It’s ridiculous. It’s so ridiculous,” she added.

Some might agree with you, Lind.  But, I have to admit that kind talk sounds like you are being awfully critical of the administration.   If Rep. Robert Brady has anything to do with it, I’d be careful with your future remarks, especially with impressive results like this:

The U.S. takes catching illegal Kinder candy seriously, judging by the number of them they’ve confiscated in the last year. Officials said they’ve seized more than 25,000 of the treats in 2,000 separate seizures.

That’s right!  They take it seriously.  It really burns me up inside, with those kind of numbers, thinking about how many of those damn chocolates crossed our border!

What’s next a nationwide search?  Random stops – probable cause for a search being a Kinder Surprise wrapper?
